Gong bath – or gong meditation, as it is more commonly known as, is one of the many services offered at Bloom Transformation Center, a self-care center, located downtown Detroit. Bloom Transformation Center is the only place in the city that offers gong meditation classes. A practice that owner Dr. Rose Moten said is hundreds of years old, but conflicts with what society generally thinks of when picturing traditional meditation. The practice originates from Asia, and Dr. Moten said that her gong meditation practice has reportedly reduces not only psychological issues like anxiety and depression, but also physical pain.

Bloom Transformation Center holds 45-minute gong meditation classes every Thursday at 6 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. Upon arrival, attendees are advised to relax on the mats, utilize the blankets and meditate in whichever position feels most comfortable. First time attendees are instructed to have low expectations. Despite those instructions, after the session attendees both new and returning recalled their meditation experiences with delight.
The meditation method uses sound vibrations and frequencies to deepen consciousness. Dr. Moten, and her assistant Jackie Jones used mallets on the gong, and chimes to induce deep sound waves. Various attendees said the sound vibrations lead to physical tremors and feelings of water waves during the meditation.
According to Dr. Moten, one of the many reasons that gong meditation is effective is because the relationship of quietly meditating during loud sounds can closely correlate to the way people handle chaos in their day-to-day lives.

The Bloom Transformation Center also offers traditional therapy with Dr. Rose Molten, a certified psychologist, as well as a host of other holistic self-care services. A complete list can be found here: https://www.drrosemoten.com/life-transformation-coach/
